I Need More Time for Myself

Ayel

IN THE last two years, I barely had enough time for introspection. I have been occupied with so many things that I did not notice my emotional and spiritual hunger.

My time had been spent on adjusting to my job and adjusting to life at home. I’ve been away from home since 2003 and it had been quite stressful to be living in a new environment at home.

I had a difficult time facing up to the new challenges. I’ve been living outside my comfort zone for most of the time and I am always treading new grounds. The responsibilities are greater and failing is never an option.

Osang’s View of Teaching is Old School

Ayel

I AM an advocate of the freedom of expression and I respect Rosanna Roces’ right to express her opinion. Whatever penalties the MTRCB imposed on her is beyond my concern and I am in no position to tell whether she (or the show) deserved the sanction given by the MTRCB.

Okay. Watch this video to hear it straight from her:

I am not insulted by the message that Ms. Roces is trying to put across. The words she chose is definitely not right for a morning show.

The Conflict at the Alabel Mega Market

Ayel

I WAS about to buy ice cream at a mini-mart in our public market yesterday afternoon when I noticed some streamers hanging on a store around the corner.

Written in red paint on empty rice sacks, they looked like one of those streamers that activists hang to express their grievances. The sight instantly caught my attention.

I looked closer to see what the streamers were all about. Alabel is not for Sale. Justice for the Market Vendors. I understood.

A Mega Market is being constructed in my hometown. It is seen to be the biggest public market in the province. The construction of which actualy spurred the stunted proposal for Alabel’s cityhood.

Gearing Up for 2010

Ayel

IF YOU watched the news last night, they again showed the usual predictions of Chinese astrologers for 2010. I could remember the astrologer saying that people who are born under the zodiac sign Aries, like me, are warned to be watchful as the coming year is foretold to be quite an unlucky one for us.

I am not really superstitious—spiritual, may be—and I believe that God is communicating to us in various ways but definitely not through horoscopes.

Vote for Education

Ayel

IN A country where leaders are into endless political bickering due to their personal ambitions the real social problems remain unseen and, therefore, not addressed.

Noralyn Obrial Ramos sent me emails on Facebook entitled, “Frustrating Facts About Regular Philippine Public High Schools” and “More Frustrating Facts About Regular Philippine Public High Schools“.

In the email–which she also posted on her blog– she blurted out her frustrations about the situation in Philippine public schools, where she has spent 16 years of her life as a teacher. She presented a cross-sectional view of the problems in the school.
