I HAD to wake up before four o’clock this morning to be one of the first registrants of Boto Mo, Ipatrol Mo, Ako ang Simula in General Santos City. That was a commitment I made as part of the Ayala Young Leaders Alliance, which is a partner of Youth Vote Philippines.
Even back in college, I have been part of our voters registration campaign and voters education program in South Cotabato. We worked with LGUs and encouraged the youth to register and to become intelligent voters.
The right of suffrage is something that we all must celebrate. We are fortunate to have been given the freedom to choose our leaders.
However, elections in the Philippines have always been marred by cheating and manipulation. So, we must all learn from what happened in the previous elections and be, ourselves, vanguards of cleanliness and honesty in 2010 National Elections.
Given the current politcal and socio-economic situation in the country, participating in the elections is not only a RIGHT, it is a DUTY. It is our duty to choose the leaders who are: (a) sincere about public service, (b) capable of serving the people and transforming communities, and (c) leaders by example.

I’m glad that the youth of today are active in this kind of advocacy. Hope we gain the CHANGE we all longed for.

Thanks, Karen. Kahit pa naman noon, marami kabataan ay nakikilahok na sa mga pagkilos tungo sa pagbabago. But we need to get more and more of the youth to get involved so we can do more.
