THIS SCHOOL Year is going to be my first official school year as a public school teacher. Having taught for about half a year, I have been accustomed to the life of a public school teacher. Although, our school is quite better than other public schools here in terms of facilities–there only up to 30 students per class, we have functional science and computer laboratories–there is so much pressure on our part as we have to keep up, if not improve continually, our performance in national exams and competitions.
As early as April, we have laid down our classroom improvement plans, which included assessment of our performance in the previous school year and our individual action plans for the coming school year. I already have a clear picture of what I am going to do to. But, I am also leaving some space for surprises that might come my way. Excitement begins there.
I will know tomorrow my final subject load. If the freshman science will really be given to me, I think I am quite prepared for it–thanks to the Summer Enrichment Classes, where I gained some experience in teaching first year students.

This year, I will be sponsoring the schooling of three of my nephews and nieces. Their father died about a year ago and their mother, who is my sister, is working as a public health worker in Bulacan. She entrusted them to me before she left two weeks ago. So, I will look after their needs.
Another one is a daughter of a member of our church in another Barangay. Her mother told us that they can’t afford to send her to school, they don’t have money for her fare, uniform, school supplies, and projects. Since, my father’s room is now empty, we welcome her into our home.
Yesterday, as I was buying their school supplies, I thought of my own years in elementary until college. I also experienced being sponsored by other people. This year, since I’m already working, it’s about time for paying back. Lol.
