I UPGRADED this blog to WordPress 2.5 last night unaware that there exists a plugin that would have made the process a breeze instead of grueling.
Some Damn Thing Always Goes Wrong. That is what is meant by that acronym in my title. I borrowed that from Michael Crichton in his novel, Congo, which I will be reviewing in my book review blog sometime soon. That statement was used by one of the characters (Travis), referring to to the seemingly inevitable occurence of technical glitches.
What happened to me last night made me also think the same way. I followed the steps suggested in the WP forum but something went wrong. Although my blog can stillbe viewed, the admin area couldn’t not be accessed anymore. Since I was only working in an Internet Cafe, I did not have the luxury of time to diagnose what was I doing wrong. So, I had to reinstall WP (and the necessary database, of course) in my cpanel and I replaced some files with those I have modified. I then imported the WP XML file I downloaded earlier.
I felt marvelous upon knowing that it worked. However the widgets in my sidebar were all gone. I fogot to consider that. On the lighter side, I have known one disdvantage of the widget-ready themes compared to those which you tweak the sidebar code. In cases similar to this, at least.
About WP 2.5…well, it’s good on the eyes. However, editing the widgets is a difficult task because I couldn’t see the rest of the panel. I only see the right vertical half of it. Maybe, this problem is isolated in IE; I haven’t tried it with Firefox yet. There are lots of changes and it might take some time (an hour, maybe, haha) before I would get accustomed to this new workspace.
God bless!
