Blog, Met Expectations and Pleasant Surprises
The Blogging Seminar in Marbel called Blog, is one successful start in spreading the word about blogging and the many possibilities it offers. The event did not only introduce blogging to non-bloggers, it also?highlighted the?many ways by which blogging can be used to promote a good cause.
The Computer Science and Information Technology Student Coucil, which Aethen heads was able to invite a good number of participants. There were about a hundred and sixty participants composed of students from three schools, some teachers, and professionals interested in blogging.
Councilor Pete Lavi?a, who came all the way from Davao City?delivered the keynote speech, which was?a preface to the talks of the resource speakers.
Hector Mi?oza talked on Blogging and Participatory Governance. Sandra Mae Bonrustro encouraged the crowd to blog about Mindanao to help change the perspective of non-Mindanaoans?toward the island. Ria Jose?presented blogging as the new media and as a tool for internet marketing.
My part was the Blogging 101, a sort of an introduction to blogging. Unfortunately,?I screwed up my presentation. I was able to present?the different reasons why people blog and some of the reasons why others do not want to give blogging a try.?I should have given suggestions for starting and popularizing a blog. If only I was able to send?Aethen the correct file. But anyway, Ate Ria made up for what I failed to give participants.
The seminar was sponsored by Matchbox cafe, Campus Art, Jehzeel Laurente, and Bro. Vince Celeste of Mozilla Firefox, and Job Oberio, who gave away?a NoKiAHOST hosting package. While the seminar was going on, three more sponsors were added to the list. One is Zion Travels and Tours, who was contacted by Avel. The two others were participants, Toto Lozano who gave a hosting a domain package and Dennis of Everglade Studio gave a away a free template. Dennis knew of the Seminar through GensanCity.com where I posted an anouncement.
Blogie and Winston of Mindanaobloggers.com expressed their support through a short video presentation.
The speakers’ lunch was sponsored by Lantaw Marbel Lodge and Restaurant.
Another suprise was the Review-A-Blog Contest, which was announced to encourage the participants to start blogging by offering several prizes. The details of the contest will be discussed later and posted at mbseminar.blogspot.com.

Marami naman gathering ng bloggers sa manila. cguro, there is no need na jan to introduce blogging kasi it’s the IN thing already. Dito kasi konti pa lang so we are spreading the word.
Ang success nung activity can be measured siguro by the number of participants who became active bloggers after the seminar.
