Death, Er, Tax is Inevitable

Ayel

IN THE US, that is. But the the Philippines, it’s being evaded.

Americans I believe are quite serious about their taxes. Probably because they know where their taxes go. They are serious about it that they have agencies that work for tax compliance–San Diego tax attorneys.

Although the BIR has a program called RATE (Run After Tax Evaders), but the evaders seem to run at a faster rate. Bulatlat.com reports that even the President has undeclared properties in the US.

I remember the question I asked during the 1st Mindanao Bloggers Summit. The Philippine’s A-List bloggers were mentioning high earnings,?so I asked if they are being taxed by the government. I noticed they were a bit hesistant.

I guess earnings from blogging is possible for now for the Philippine government to tax. In the first place, I believe, we have no laws yet governing this form of income generation. I guess, many among our legislators know that it’s possible to earn to blogging. If there might already be laws or policies existing, our government has no means of knowing who is earning and how much.

But even if their are already laws and mechanisms established about tax collection, if we see that our taxes go down the drain in questionable government projects, many would still?choose to pay their taxes if given a choice.
