I’m Now a Government Employee

Ayel

I HAVE officially joined the government service. It is like an unopened package at the moment; I have yet to see what is in store for me.

When I think of government service, I always remember stories I have read about the Russian Troika, Chinese Communism, among others. I do not exactly know why but I think it is because I consider working for the government as something serious; that it requires more dedication and has more meaning than any other job. Those stories I have read talk of heroism and I feel that I might get to the deal with that word more often than ever.

I submitted my papers two days ago at the DepEd Division office. If there will be no more problems about it, it will signify my official inclusion to the list of government workers. There is no turning back. Anyway, I have no choice. This is part of my paying back the government for sending me to college through the DOST-SEI grant. But more than just complying, I feel that this happens for a reason and everything does. This is one of the learning experiences that would shape me to become the kind of person I am destined to be.

Although my welcome and my first few experiences in dealing with my superiors had not been nice, and despite all the negative images painted about the government, I am giving it the benefit of the doubt. I wish that I will find what I ought to find here.
