Rekindling the Fire

ON THE bus home, I met again?after several months one of my closest college friends. Aside from beer, there is one more thing that binds us together.

aylc7.jpgStruggling with the bags and file folders I got from the office where I previously worked, I hurried got on the bus at about half past two this afternoon to catch up with my appointment with the radiologist at four. Good thing, the guards did not open my bags again. I looked for a vacant seat and noticed a familiar face. Only, this face was more hairy and looked like that of a man?five years older than me. “Ariel,” he called me “it’s you!”

It was Ronnel. A fellow at the T’nalak Youth Group. He was the Assistant?to Aethen?before qualifying to the MASICAP program. I was suprised to see him darker and older. He got it from his field work, he said.

He was sitting near the window and the sun was strong. I offered my jacket. I forgot that he also has the same jacket I?got from a congress I attended one year before he did. And that spurred the drama of this all, the reason why I am posting this.

The AYLC jacket is a big thing for us who were able to part of the congress. No, it does not make us proud. It reminds us that we have a responsibility on our shoulders, the starfish we choose to throw back to the ocean. We talked about our respective works now–how we are making a difference in our own ways.

We talked about young people who are convinced to stay in the country despite the lure of the green bucks. He told?me how they work for countryside development. He was teary-eyed about it.

When it was time to go, I looked at the? logo on my jacket and told him, “Keep the fire burning.”

How My Neighbors Vote

ABOUT 70? people vied to become a Kagawad in our Baranggay. I personally know only about two or three of them. So, I had to ask some people who their choices are and why.

From my talks with them, I have seen how the people in my neighborhood choose the people they want to be their leaders.

Many of the voters base their decision on a) the character of the candidate; and b) how the the candidate has helped or may help them, among others.

Visit my BatangKalye site to read my?post on the baranggay and SK elections in my town.

MBS 1, A Huge Success!

A FORMIDABLE?force of about a hundred bloggers from Davao and other parts of Mindanao came together for the first ever Mindanao Bloggers Summit?at the NCCC Mall, Davao City, yesterday.

mbs2

The event was not merely a meet-up?where bloggers simply bond with each other, share stories and tips, and bring home freebies. It was different in the sense that it had a?relevant and noble aim: Blogging for Culture, Identity, and Understanding. Aware of the negative conotation about the island insinuated by the mainstream media’s coverage of the isolated conflicts in Mindanao, blogging is seen as an alternative medium, which will promote the true identity of?Mindanao and its peoples. Through our blogs, we can help make our fellow Mindanaoans?aware of our own culture and?others understand our ways.

The LET 2007 Result is Finally Out

I was awakened by a message from Jehz, one of the web administrators of prcboardexamresults.com that the result of the August 2007 Licensure Examination for Teachers is already out.

A little later, Aethen called, congratulating me for passing the LET.

I checked out inquirer.net and here is what I found:

LET 2007

According to the Manila Bulletin:

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced yesterday that 18,376 elementary teachers out of 66,709 examinees and 16,811 secondary teachers out of 57,723 examinees passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) given by the Board for Professional Teachers on Aug. 26 in 19 testing centers in the country.

The result will hopefully be in the papers tomorrow, October 27, 2007.

Congratulations to everyone who made it, especially to my fellow physics majors at NDMU (100%, yay!):

AGUIRRE, JOHN RYAN CARIGANDA
BACALING, MARICEL DULACA
BATILLER, SHIRLY SUCAYAN
DAUS, LEANN JESTER CABRIDO
GARDOSE, IAN NEIL MAGTULIS

God bless us all!

Digital Detours Update–Road Home

I HAVE finally left my old blog. I now have the feeling similar to that of an OFW who does not want to leave his home but has to. I don’t want to leave my Blogdrive because it?had been home for me in the?last?three years but I had to leave it for this new home, which offers a wider space to move about.

I’m looking forward to a more meaningful journey with Wordpress.
